The ever-knowledeable Ronn Sutton adds:
ReplyDeleteMorrow illustrated quite a number of these Childhood of Famous Americans books, which also included:
Robert E Lee, Young Confederate
Francis Scott Key, Maryland Boy
Nancy Hanks, Kentucky Girl
Anthony Wayne, Covered Wagon Boy
Henry Clay, Young Kentucky Orator
Abner Doubleday, Young Baseball Pioneer
as well as volumes on Jim Thorpe, Noah Webster and probably others.
The earliest dated Morrow book in this series I have is 1960 (and the Wally Wood illustrated ones are from 1958 & '59, I believe).
I am going to have to keep an eye out for these - they would make such a nice little collection!
