Orion

Orion was a concept that Gray returned to several times. Here's some of the lovely color version from HEAVY METAL.

Black Fog

From the Red Circle days of the seventies, here are some cool Gray illos for a not bad short text story by T. Casey Brennan, one of the unsung writers of the day who would go on to become quite the story himself.

Infinity

Once again, thanks to friend Paul, we have these images from the early seventies pro-zine, INFINITY. They appear to be preliminary studies for some of Gray's digest or paperback covers of the sixties.

STreet Flash

Once again we have Paul to thank for this scan from the oversized 1975 STreet Enterprises Benefit Portfolio. STreet Enterprises was the company that published THE MENOMONEE FALLS GAZETTE and GUARDIAN and by that point I believe had taken over THE COMIC READER from Paul Levitz as he settled in at DC as a pro.

Orion

I have long felt that some of Gray's best color comics work was on his ORION series that appeared in various places including HEAVY METAL. We'll have more on ORION coming up shortly but here's a stunning preview illustration!

Heritage/Flash Gordon

Gray Morrow was one of many comics artists who contributed to two gorgeous Flash Gordon-centric publications of the early seventies. Too classy to be called fanzines, these squarebound small press publications were entitled HERITAGE 1A and HERITAGE 1B. Seen here are Gray's portfolio contributions to the first volume and, although we've run it before, his absolutely gorgeous collaboration with Al Williamson on the cover of the second volume.
