That's an odd piece in a couple respects. The reproduction doesn't seem clear, its a bit fuzzy. And then there's the large areas of solid black which stand out like a sore thumb because there's no other black in the piece. The curved black line seems very clumsy and unsmooth. I suspect the magazine art director made a repro of Gray's painting and touched it up to "give it some punch". ---RonnS
