Jet Powers

Here's Gray's recognizable art on the cover of JET POWER # 2, circa 1958, one of the infamous IW/Super reprinted comics of the late fifties and early sixties. Nearly all of these new editions had newly drawn covers, often by the likes of Ross Andru and Mike Esposito or Jack Abel but here by Gray Morrow. The interiors were a reprint of an issue of JET and featured Bob Powell art.

Ace and Lancer Covers

The ever-delightful GOLDEN AGE COMIC BOOK STORIES blog--which sometimes rarely has much to do with golden age comic book stories--spotlights a whole big bunch of Gray's covers for Ace and Lancer sci-fi paperbacks in the sixties and seventies.

Spectre and Madame Xanadu

Some of my favorite Gray Morrow work was on THE SPECTRE in the 1980's. One of his longer runs, with stories written by the great Doug Moench, the series was given more characterization than it had ever had before. The Ghostly Guardian was even given a sort of, kind of, almost love interest in Madame Xanadu, herself an abandoned DC character. The pair are sen here in this original art.

Gray by Netzer and Kupperberg

I finally found the January, 2002 issue of COMIC BOOK ARTIST in a box at the very back of my closet. This issue, # 17, features nearly 20 pages in memory of the then-recently deceased Gray Morrow. Amongst all the photos and art one finds these two lovely portraits of Gray by two great friends of my blogs--Alan Kupperberg and Michael Netzer.
